Splashing into the new year

■Franklin will welcome the New Year with a warming tent to greet kayakers as they run the rapids into downtown Franklin, disembarking at Trestleview Park.  Warm drinks, chili and soups will be waiting to warm them up.  The tent will be up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A bonfire will be roaring at Mill City Park and kayakers will keep doing their thing throughout the day.   Downtown Eateries,,the Franklin Café Vulgar Brewery and Asian Delight (Thai) will be open. ■Free Tax Preparation can be arranged by calling 2-1-1 for an appointment.  VITA tax group will be at the TRIP center every Thursday from Jan. 13 through April 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

■The deadline for signing up for the Affordable Care Act is Jan. 15.  Visit as soon as possible.

■New Years’ Dinner will be served at the TRIP Center on Dec. 30 at 10:30 a.m.  Music, raffles and bingo will make this a fun activity and you can bring family and friends.  Call 934-4151 to reserve a space.

■The Franklin Rotary Club meets at the Episcopal Mission every Wednesday at noon, so mark your calendar ahead.  Contact [email protected] for more information. Visit for speaker info. 

■CAP Weatherization Program offers a scientific audit of your home to see if you qualify for fuel assistance and meet income guidelines for weatherization.  Call 225-3295 for more information.

■Start the New Year with line dancing, offered at the TRIP Center every Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. and Keep Movin’, an exercise program for adults, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.  A fun, free way to ring in the new year.   Call 934-4151 for details.

■Meals to Go are distributed at the TRIP Center on Mondays as well as home delivery of Meals on Wheels.  Call Nancy at 934-4151 for information.  

■Register now at Parks & Recreation for the Before and After School Program and the Kindness Club (for ages seven to 10), and much more.  The Junior Youth Group serves 6th and 7th graders (ages 11 to 13) and meets Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Center. Contact Karen at (603) 770-1851.
